Ming Dynasty Recessed-leg Table with Everted Flanges （2）

I started to make the Ming Dynasty Recessed-leg table with everted flanges.

The dimensions of this table: 3376mm * 620mm * 984mm.

I started with the tabletop and sidebar. This is my progress for now.






It's not a very complicated structure yet I still have some difficulties to build the everted flanges. It's hard to match the mortise and tenon on a curvy surface. 

I will practise more on the sweep 1 and sweep 2 to create a correct curvy surface.

Surface Design

I am always interested in the surface pattern design. Here are some photos from my inspiration hunt. I like the circular shape and I found I was particularly attracted by patterns with mysterious contents. So I decided to have my design theme as Cyberpunk. I hope it will be combined with the ancient mysterious concept and futuristic robots, so I made a manta ray robot flying over an ancient Chinese lotus flower style totem.  I want to make it as a print for bags or T-shirts.  I am still struggling with the setup of Blogger, and can't figure out how to upload clear large images. Before I find out how to fix the resolution problem, please pardon my blurry images. Thank you.  P.S.: The 2D surface pattern design is done by Rhino. It's way more difficult to draw with Rhino than to draw with Illustrator. Anyways, the good news is that I am now a master of "interpCrv", "circle", "offset", "arrayCrv", "hatch" etc. Lol

 The table is finished. Here are some rendered pictures of the table. Since this is a piece of furniture from the Ming Dynasty, I created two Chinese-style windows, a lamp and a pen holder to add some antique touch. The bamboo forest outside the window is a picture. I don't dare to create the entire 3D model of a forest. So hopefully the picture can do the justice. ^_^ I didn't make the desktop bookshelf. For one reason, it is too modern for the antique furniture. For another reason, I really don't have enough time. However, dissembling and measuring a piece of a real object helped me to understand the dimensions better.

Mushroom Castle for the CAD Class Assignment

  This week's assignment is to make a castle with Rhino. I decided to create a game about one button mushrooms searching for colours. This castle can fit in as part of the scene. The story of the game is very simple. One little button mushroom starts her journey to search for her colourful companions. I did some research about mushrooms, and I especially like the golden jungle mushrooms. They are groups of little mushrooms growing on the tree buck.   So I want to design the castle arrangement like the mushroom community. The buildings are similar to the mushroom shape but in a more straight and tidy fashion. The tiny thin stem-like towers work as the stairs to climb up to the caps. The caps have several windows on them to indicate the little mushrooms living inside.  Buildings are placed randomly but close together.
